About Us

The MetGCSA is an association of Golf Course Superintendents committed to the science and art of golf course management for the welfare of the game of golf. We actively work to highlight the organization and business effectiveness of our profession. We also advance the professional image and well-being of our members to today’s golfing patron.

We accomplish these tasks through the timely and efficient use of present-day education, communication, and management means. The MetGCSA has a long history dating back to 1959 and has seen some of the most influential and noteworthy individuals in the golf industry succeed at member clubs and organizations. We honor our past with several highly-regarded awards and constantly look to our future by offering scholarships and with our integral role in the Tri-State Turf Research Foundation.

History

The MetGCSA has a rich history of promoting the welfare of the game of golf along with the science and art of golf course management. We advocate for the organization and business effectiveness of the profession, combined with the professional image and well-being of its individual members.

The history of our association is certainly seen through the many volunteers who have led peers serving our association. We have also awarded many professionals in the golf industry for their efforts, and have archived this wonderful information on the page.

 

Sherwood A. Moore Award

This prestigious award is presented to a golf course superintendent advancing the professional image, status and reputation of the golf course superintendent. Moore, the award’s first recipient and namesake, served as president of the MetGCSA, GCSA of New Jersey, and the GCSAA.

John Reid Lifetime Achievement Award

The MetGCSA presents this award annually to an individual or organization which, through continuing commitment, has shown exemplary support of the game of golf and golf course superintendents. John Reid, “The Father of American Golf,” introduced the game to America in 1888 and later assisted in the formation of the United States Golf Association and Metropolitan Golf Association.
